Labour is the largest political party in Loughborough Constituency. The Constituency not only covers the town, but important Leicestershire towns villages like Shepshed, Barrow upon Soar, Quorn, Sileby and parts of Mountsorrel.
Labour was founded to give ordinary people a voice. At that time women didn't even have the vote and workers were exploited by employers and landlords. There was little protection for the environment. Of course, largely through political action, things have improved, but we haven't stopped the fight for fairness. People still need protection at work, not just in Britain but in developing countries too.
Labour is a democratic socialist party. Close to many other similar parties elsewhere in the world. our philosophy of sharing wealth and giving a voice to the voiceless has universal appeal. Included in that is a deep respect for human rights and the protection of the environment - these things were there at our origins and remain in our DNA today.
